(Grammatical) gender troubles and the gender of pronouns
Phoevos Panagiotidis
October 2017

This paper discusses the locus of grammatical gender and semantic gender features. It looks into the gender of pronominals and into cases of mismatch between grammatical and semantic gender in Brazilian Portuguese and Greek. The conclusion is that grammatical gender is encoded on n, while natural gender on a higher functional head -- harking back to Picallo (1991) and much subsequent work.
