Partikelverben und sekundäre Prädikative im Zimbrischen

Particle verbs show remarkable properties in Cimbrian. While the postverbal position of the particle (gehöart au ‘stopped’) can be taken to be indicative of its status as a VO-language, the preverbal position typical of the Germanic OV-languages is possible as well (augehöart). Moreover, the particle can also be separated in different positions further to the left, but still in the verbal complex (“particle split”), a phenomenon that is well-known from Dutch and German dialects. We investigate the grammatical properties of these verbs and related constructions like secondary predicates in some more detail than the previous literature and demonstrate their importance for identifying micro- parametric variation but also independent developments induced by the special status of Cimbrian as Germanic variety in a Romance environment.
