Raising, uncased
Daniel Greeson
April 2024

This tiny squib provides new data from Brazilian Portuguese that raise a potential problem for Nunes' (2008) inherent case–centered analysis of hyperraising, and also for deactivation/Minimality-oriented approaches like Carstens & Diercks (2013), Halpert (2019). The data concern CPs that are able to be hyperraised out of despite the entire CP itself being a possible A-mover. Feedback extremely welcome! Edited April 2024 to add additional constructed and naturally occurring examples and to clarify the role played by the presence of an adjective in the hyperraising predicate.
